Pumpkins, Pumpkins, and more Pumpkins!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins, and more Pumpkins!

Oct 25, 2015

As I mentioned before, Halloween is just not giving me awesome goose bumps this year. I'm in a funk about the whole thing and in an attempt to not be in said-funk, we filled this past weekend with very Halloween-y and Fall-y things - like visits to farms, pumpkin pancakes and pumpkin carving!

After devouring Pumpkin Chocolate Chip pancakes and maple sausage (you can find the recipe here) we went to Seventh Generation Farms. First, it's super close to our place (very nice) and let me tell you, this farm was heaven-sent! There wasn't a huge crowd (off to a great start), there were pigs and goats that you could pet (be still my beating heart) and they sell meat, eggs, and produce for a FRACTION of what some of the other farms charge (WAM! I'm sold forever).

We met the owner who let us know that he had his own meat company when he was 18, and there is no middle-man with his farm --- he does it all, cutting out transportation and outsourced labor costs. But the greatest part of all? He actually keeps his prices low and fair because of that. Makes sense right? Well let me tell you, that's not typical for Boulder.

If something is touted as "local" in Boulder, the price automatically sky-rockets because it's truly a fad. It's not about keeping money within a local economy and supporting small farms - it's more about snobbery and feeling good about yourself aside from the fact that you just spent $9 on organic kale. Barf.

Ok, soapbox done.

On to more pics of our farm trip!

I was in heaven (hog-heaven? *wahmp wahmp*)

This little guy was Rob's best friend!

We took our pumpkins back to our friends' place and carved/painted them together (which was almost as fun as the homemade lamb enchilada night they hosted shortly after, followed by many episodes of "Drunk History"...almost ;)

And then Rob and I ended the weekend with a nice little stroll Sunday night in downtown Louisville for some wine and appetizers at Por Wine House. Ahhhh... :)

Hope you had a beautiful weekend too!
